Above is a PowerPoint made by myself and my research partner based off of a research paper we read. The paper was called Photoperiodic induced changes in reproductive state of border canaries are associated with marked variation in hypothalamic gonadotropin releasing hormone immunoreactivity and the volume of song control regions. My partner and I had to read this research paper and summarize it for our lab meeting by presenting a PowerPoint of the most important things. We discussed the background, materials and methods, the figures, discussions and conclusions. This PowerPoint helps demonstrate level 4 of Information Synthesis. Information Synthesis Level 4: “Demonstrates ability to reflect upon how the paper/project led to new knowledge and understanding about the research process.” In order to do this project, it was necessary for my partner and I to first find a research paper that related to our research and then understand the information. Once we understood the information that was presented in the paper, we were able to take it, and in our own words summarize the findings. We had to break down and summarize each figure in the paper, which means we had to understand the methods and processes they used in order to understand what each figure meant. We also had to take the information and explain how it related to our research. This project helps understand different processes that can be used in labs to research similar things. The experience helped me to understand that there are many different ways to look at and research similar things and that's what makes looking at different people’s research so important (Info Synthesis, level 4).
